1. Who has been the biggest influence on you as a female horror writer?

Tananarive Due and her African Immortal series were a big influence on me. They were absolutely creepy and I loved her writing style as well as the attention to detail she added.

2. Do you think the style of horror differs between women and men authors? E.g. psychological vs gore?

I find that a lot of times the women tend to be more psychological and the men are more gore. Of course there are always exceptions to this rule. Stephen King has some great psychological thrillers out there and even Anne Rice can get a little gruesome.

3. Do you have a main subject that your write about? I.e. certain bad guys or themes?

My main subject is usually to pick a fear and exploit the hell out of it. I like writing about things people are afraid of in day to day life. Spiders. Snakes. The dark. Little bumps in the night. Expand all that with extra detail and horrifying scenarios, get under your reader’s skin as much as possible.

4. If you could have dinner with a famous horror writer, living or dead, who would it be and why?

This one is kind of hard for me. I would like to say Mary Shelley. Frankenstein has always been one of my favorite horror books and there are so many questions I want to ask her about the relationship between the characters as well as the inspiration behind Dr. Frankenstein himself.

5. Favorite female horror writer? Why?

At this point it would be without a doubt Madam Holly Black. Yes. Spiderwick Chronicles Holly Black. Haha. The Coldest Girl in Cold Town was amazing. The Doll Bones was by far some of the eeriest storytelling I’ve ever come across. She has a way with words that will suck you in from the beginning and won’t let you go until you’ve finished the book!
