If you are a horror writer, then it is likely that you will write about vampires at some point in your career. Stephen King is one of the most famous horror writers of all time and in his novel, Salem's Lot, he introduced us to his vampires. They do appear again in some of his Dark Tower novels, but Salem's Lot is arguably his best vampire novel.
Ben Mears returns to his home town to find that the residents are being turned into vampires. It quickly spreads through the town and Ben must find the source before they take over. It has been adapted several times into a mini series and will be adapted again in the next year. King's vampires have three distinct types, each different from the last. Type one are prehistoric creatures who create drones of sorts from humans who become type twos. When a human is bitten by a type two, they can still pass as human but all must drink blood to survive. While King has not written about vampires for a while, as his books all exist in the same world, it is possible we will see them again in future works. Comments are closed.
