Q & A with Scarlett West

1) Tell us about your book.

I write steamy and edgy paranormal romance with vampires. In Forbidden Darkness, vampires are going extinct. Male vampires must mate with humans in order to survive but cannot have relationships.
Reinis is assigned to mate with a human, Sarma, who will birth a prophesied child to save their species. He breaks the rules and falls in love with her. Now he faces execution.
Sarma is on vacation when she meets Reinis. Without knowing it, she gets involved in Reinis' dark and seductive world when he marks her as his mate. And she becomes the target of a rival vampire coven.

2) What makes your vampires unique?

The main vampire coven lives in North Eastern Europe, in a country called Latvia. It's by Russia. During the summer there are over twelve hours of daylight, so my vampires develop an immunity to sunlight. They can walk around during the day but their powers are weakened.
Besides being able to mind read, self-heal, move objects, start fires, and control others, some also fly.
Depending on the hero or heroine, vampires can have a special ability. For example, some can turn into a wolf, manipulate energy, or learn unlimited languages. I have a lot of fun switching it up!
Also, vampires that become evil have diminished abilities and depend on magic to defend themselves or manipulate others. Essentially, they are vampire witches.

3) If you could have a vampire ability what would it be and why?

Great and sexy question. It's always been hard for me to decide between self-healing and being able to manipulate my environment including people. The second one is more appealing but at the same time, it might be scary to hold such an intense power.
I think vampires are just used to it so they don't bat an eye at controlling others. In addition, how else would they feed?

4) Is your book standalone or part or a series?

Forbidden Darkness is the first book in Immortal Desire Series. Each book has a happy ever ending, but the series is connected so it's best to read them in order.
During the series, vampires must make deadly decisions between saving their covens or romancing their mates. 
Steamy and thrilling, more than just lives are at stake in this paranormal world of romance and danger…

5) What is next for you?

At the moment, I'm working on Awakened Darkness, book 3 and Darkness Claimed, book 4. Those will come out in fall 2019. 
I am also planning another series, but so far it's a secret project so you'll have to stay tuned.
